Due to its critical role in the illicit production of controlled substances, PMK ethyl glycidate (and other glycidic derivatives of PMK) has been placed under international control. The United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) voted to include PMK glycidate (and all stereoisomers) in Table I of the 1988 Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances in March 2019.

This designation requires governments, including the United States, to establish pre-export notifications and monitor its manufacture and distribution to prevent diversion.
